COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath met with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), for a bilateral discussion at the United Nations Headquarters. The meeting focused on Sri Lanka’s engagement with the multilateral trading system and explored avenues to enhance cooperation with the WTO. Minister Herath emphasized Sri Lanka’s engagement with the multilateral trading system and ways to strengthen cooperation Director-General Okonjo-Iweala, while discussing the current global trade landscape, highlighted both the positive developments and challenges facing member states. She also shared insights on the ongoing reform agenda at the WTO, aimed at making the organization more responsive to the needs of developing economies.
