COLOMBO (News 1st); A high-level Sri Lankan delegation led by Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara departed for Geneva, Switzerland today (24) to participate in the first periodic review of the Committee on Enforced Disappearances, scheduled to take place on September 26. The delegation includes senior officials from the Attorney General’s Department and the Office on Missing Persons, who are expected to present the government’s new strategic framework for addressing cases of enforced disappearances — a long-standing issue in Sri Lanka’s post-conflict landscape. Sri Lanka is a party to the International Convention for the Protection of all Persons from Enforced Disappearance since 2016. In addition, Sri Lanka is among the 77 States parties to the Convention required to undergo periodic reviews of their reports by the Committee of 10 independent international experts on how they are implementing the Convention.
